GARNET
High-performance mineral abrasive preferred in industrial sandblasting, waterjet cutting and surface preparation with its natural hardness, high density and environmentally friendly structure.
What is Garnet?
Garnet is a mineral group that is among the silicate group minerals and is widely found in nature. Garnet used in industrial applications is mostly in its naturally mined and processed form; The most common of these almandine is the type.
Garnet is obtained by grinding natural garnet rock and delivers reliable industrial performance with its balanced hardness and density. On the Mohs hardness scale, it is standardized at 7.5 - 8.0, which supports consistent abrasive performance.
Garnet offers many advantages over abrasive natural materials such as silica sand: it contains no free silica, is non-toxic, environmentally friendly and is multi-use.

Industrial Usage Areas
Garnet is a preferred material in many different industries and applications with its versatile structure.
Sandblasting / Abrasive Surface Preparation
One of the most common uses of garnet is sandblasting processes. This includes cleaning metal surfaces from layers such as rust, old paint, dirt and oxide, and preparation before repainting or coating by creating surface roughness.
- High cutting efficiency and low dust production
- Multi-use structure for economical operation
- Effective performance in vehicle restoration projects
- Controlled cleaning on wood surfaces
- Suitable for blasting galvanized workpieces
- Keep the surface clean and smooth after use
- It can be easily used in injection and pressure sandblasting systems.
Waterjet Cutting
Garnet is used in cutting materials such as metal, stone, glass, marble, granite and high-strength steel under high pressure with water jet. It provides a more precise, clean-edged cut compared to mechanical cutting, and the internal structure of the materials is not damaged.
- Zero heat effect — no thermal deformation
- Does not cause clogging thanks to correct grain size distribution
- Ideal for cutting marble, granite, steel, glass and automotive glass
- Precision part cutting in the aerospace industry
Water Filtration Systems
Garnet offers an ideal water filter medium with its chemically inert and non-metallic structure, which is commonly found in the natural environment. Thanks to its high specific gravity, it is the heaviest filter bed material and can filter down to 10-20 microns.
- Used in drinking water, wastewater and industrial water treatment
- Meets NSF/ANSI 61 and AWWA B100-01 standards
- It is dense enough to allow faster backwashing
- High chemical and abrasive resistance
Shipbuilding and Scraping
Garnet is widely used in shipyards for corrosion removal of ship hulls and removal of old paint and epoxy. Thanks to its high specific gravity, grains hitting the surface provide strong energy transfer.
- Effectively removes scale, epoxy and thick coating
- Reusability reduces cost
- It does not have a corrosive effect and can be used safely on stainless surfaces.
Other Application Areas
Garnet's versatile structure makes it indispensable in many different industries.
Petrochemicals and Energy
12/20 and 20/40 mesh garnet is used in surface preparation, scale removal and pre-coating cleaning operations in petrochemical plants.
Aerospace
Precise surface cleaning and preparation of turbine blades, aluminum and special alloys is performed with 180 mesh fine-grained garnet.
Glass and Stone Work
Fine-grained garnet is used in polishing glass surfaces, marble and stone surface treatments and decorative applications.
Automotive and Construction
It provides reliable performance in vehicle restoration, surface preparation before painting, construction steel and bridge sandblasting operations.

Why Should Garnet Be Preferred?
Advantages offered by garnet compared to traditional abrasive materials.
Garnet's Advantages
Garnet is an economical option compared to silica sand, steel and mineral grits due to its low consumption (kg/m²) and high production (m²/hr). With a Garnet Capacity of 10,000 Tons/Month and annual production of thousands of tonnes, it supports continuous high-volume supply.
Thanks to its high specific gravity (4.0-4.1), the grains hitting the surface during dirt and crust removal processes have high energy. Its angular grain structure provides a rapid cleaning effect on all types of materials.
Garnet grains create a smooth profile that is virtually filler-free and provides an excellent surface for the coating to adhere. Its non-porous, moisture-proof structure does not interfere with coatings.

Usage Notes and Packaging
Things to consider when using garnet and delivery information.
Things to Consider
Although garnet is versatile and advantageous, there are some issues to consider when using it:
Equipment wear: Hard and sharp garnet grains can cause increased wear, especially on sandblasting nozzles and spray tubes. Regular maintenance and parts replacement are important.
Choosing the right grain size: If the mesh size appropriate to the application is not selected, efficiency will decrease. Determine the appropriate size according to the table above.
Collection for recycling: Garnet must be properly collected and cleaned to benefit from its reuse advantage.
Personal protective equipment: Although garnet produces less dust than silica sand, appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) should be used during sandblasting operations.
